0161_001_FireflyTally might not be able to join us in person this year at Desert Bus for Hope but that doesn’t mean her presence isn’t felt.

We get to have a chat with Jer and Tally on stream today and to celebrate that we have this Firefly Dicebag and Cushion Cover. The cushion cover (actual cushion not included) is 14″x14″ and the drawstring bag stands 7″ tall. To celebrate the freedom of space we’re giving this away as a donation drive.

As an added bonus, to FILL this dice bag will be Jeremy’s HEAVILY used GenCon exclusive dice. Jeremy is also adding in his PERSONAL copy of Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle, a DnD 5th edition book that actually predates 5th Edition RELEASING.

Any donations of $8.25 or multples thereof until 6PM PST will enter you for a chance to win this lot!

Matt Wiggins & Tally Heilke

Driving: Sunday, Nov 13 10am – 10pm

Matt Wiggins

Driving since: 2012
Points: 3
Crashes: 7

Matt was enrolled early in an experimental super-human program meant to train participants to the limits of human endurance. He emerged as the prime physical specimen you see today: able to do barely one unassisted chin up, and a top 50% finisher in his age group at the annual Sun Run.

It’s Desert Bus’ 10th year:

His first memory of Desert Bus:
Paul and James talking about doing a charity fund raiser for Child’s Play, like, a year before we actually did one.

Tally Heilke

Driving since: 2012
Points: 2
Crashes: 5

She was a mild-mannered, all-Canadian girl… until the day she saw her family crushed in front of her by a crate of glitter tumbling from a speeding Michael’s truck. Through rainbow coloured tears she vowed to teach people to craft WITHOUT glitter, so such tragedy would never occur again.

It’s Desert Bus’ 10th year:

Her first memory of Desert Bus:
Me, to Jeremy, “Sorry, I don’t quite follow. You’re going to do /what/ exactly all weekend with your friends? Desert what? That game sounds terrible.”

SkylarAllegroSky Kara - who is 6

After an extensive judging process (because the amount of entries and the quality of all of them were insane), we were able to narrow it down to two winners. We split the challenge into an adult, and a kid section due to how many entries from younger viewers we had. On the left we have Skylar (AllegroSky) and on the right we have Kara! Congratulations to both of our winners. We also want to give an honourable mention to Armiyana who made the judging of our Adult portion extremely difficult.

Natalia “Tally, The Girl With All the Scissors” Mai Lorraine Heilke

Tally Heilke

Driving since: 2012
Points: 1
Crashes: 5

Patronus:

Theme Song: His Cheeseburger by Veggie Tales

First Crush: Mr. Snuffleupagus

Why “The Girl With All the Scissors”?
I have all these scissors, you see. They’re the best basic tool ever. And if you use my fabric scissors on paper, I WILL CUT YOU. With the paper scissors, obvs, not the fabric scissors, because those are for FABRIC ONLY.

How she feels about driving for Desert Bus 9:

When not at Desert Bus, she can be found:
Playing with scissors, playing with crayons, playing with fabric, playing with glue, playing with paints (fyi it’s super true what they say about how you should only use spray paint in a well ventilated area). Colouring pictures with small children at work, or wrangling spreadsheets. Sometimes colouring spreadsheets and wrangling small children.

Best of Games Quilt

Created & Donated by Tara Heilke

Best of Games Quilt 1 of 4

In those 11 and a half bleak, quiet months between one Desert Bus and the next, you can cozy up under this colourful commemorative quilt, consoling yourself by playing games with actual plots, mechanics, characters and even scenery. This quilt will remind you that Desert Bus, while the best of games, is really also the worst of games. While sadly not watching it, you can rest content in the fact that you are also not playing it. The quilt’s detailed stitching shows off the bug splat, the road, the pine tree air freshener, the steering wheel, and the Sega controller. And if you flip the quilt over… surprise! It’s reversible and the back displays a video game that a mildly sane person might actually want to spend time playing. Just don’t let that Tetris song get stuck in your head…

This is a cotton quilt with polyester filling measuring approximately 45″ wide x 66″ long (approx. 113 cm x165 cm).

About the artist:
Tara Heilke (the mother of Desert Bus’ very own Tally Heilke) is a longtime seamstress who’s especially fond of appliqué. In between making monster hoodies for baby gifts and duck-embellished slippers for her son-in-law, Tara enjoys doing side projects like making masks and tea cozies and whatever else she can think of. She generally feels that the world needs a little more colour and pizzaz in it.
