Ken Steacy will be visiting Desert Bus for Hope 2018
on Monday, November 12th at 7:00pm PST!
Known around Desert Bus as Ken “Value Added” Steacy (thanks to his legacy of creating some of the most exciting live auctions we’ve ever seen), Ken decided at age eleven to become a professional comic book writer/artist, a dream he realized in 1974. Since then, he has chronicled the exploits of Spider-Man, Harry Potter, and the Star Wars gang, to name but a few. In addition to creating his own intellectual property, he has collaborated with Harlan Ellison, Dean Motter, and Douglas Coupland. The recipient of an Eisner and an Inkpot award, Ken was inducted into the Joe Shuster Awards Hall of Fame in 2009, a lifetime achievement award honouring Canadian comic book creators for their contributions to the industry. Alongside his wonderful wife, graphic novelist Joan Steacy, Ken is currently teaching Comics & Graphic Novels in a program they created at Camosun College here in Victoria.

Dr. Joseph Albietz is a Pediatric Intensivist and Medical Director of Child Life at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO), and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Supported by a grant from Child’s Play, Dr. Albietz is the world’s first Medical Director of Child Life. His focus has been to maximize the clinical benefit of commercially available and emerging gaming and entertainment technologies. He and the Child Life department have recently launched a number of successful programs including the first Child’s Play funded Gaming Technology Specialist position, the Extended Reality Program at CHCO, a gaming tech education program for staff, child-piloted telepresence robots, a number of pilot programs in partnership with gaming charities, and are working to create a hospital-based makerspace for patients. We’ll talk with Dr. Joe about this partnership and the impact of your contributions, and the contributions of others across the broader Child’s Play Charity community.
