Welcome to Zeta!

Our fair Lunar Module was visited by Carl Sagan, and he serenaded us with a song by The Postal Service!

Like last year, we will have to take our stream down nightly. Tonight, we applied a patch and got a new skin.

We learned that our Zeta team is, in fact, drift-compatible

And the shift ended with a visit from Dale!!

Who knows what we may get up to tomorrow? Stick around to see!!

After an afternoon of many surprise guests, we had one more surprise… Skeletor came by and visited us! It was an evening of surprises, discussions, and shenanigans… here’s some of what you missed…

===========================

Mikey Neumann called in to the Lunar Module to answer some of your questions and give away some blu-ray movies from his personal collection.

Skeletor graced us with his presence with a moving rendition of Bulletproof.

For reaching $225K on Ashley and Graham’s shift, Emily led the room in a rendition of the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Cameron tried to sneak in at the start of his shift, but the cosmos determined one does not simply appear in the driver’s chair. So, by happenstance, we tripped across the Full Song Random Dance Party!

We had an extended discussion about video game design.

And, finally, Cameron has challenged the community to come up with its best subtractive poetry! Check the blog for full details on this challenge, which will run up until the end of Cameron’s shift at 10:00am PST.

===========================

Remember, for the latest updates, stay tuned to desertbus.org. You can also catch up on the latest #DB2018 happenings around the web…

686px-Shannon_communication_systemCameron has come up with a clever Creative Challenge for his shift, a combination of prose and art!

We’ve challenged the community to come up with some subtractive poetry. If you haven’t seen this before, it can be kind of like using word magnets to create something, except you’ll create it by picking out words from an existing work, sometimes with some artwork to connect the words together. And, for this challenge, you’ll need to make your creations from a page of Claude E. Shannon’s A Mathematical Theory of Communication, the founding work of information theory. Here’s a PDF copy of the original work hosted by the Harvard Mathematics Department.

You can send in an image or written text. If you’re creating an image, send your final creation as a PNG or JPG. For text entries, you can include your content in the email itself or attach as a TXT file. In either case, send your creations to [email protected] with the subject line “Thematic Communion“. Also please let us know what name we should use for you should we show your submission on-air. The winner of this challenge will win a Desert Bus 2018 t-shirt!

We’ll accept submissions until 10:00am PST.
