At 11:00AM you’ll want to make sure to tune in as we speak to legendary game designer Tim Schafer! From his days at LucasArts to the founding and flourishing of his own studio Double Fine Productions, Tim’s work carries a reputation for creativity, innovation, and fun. Tim has worked on numerous titles, including Monkey Island 1 & 2, Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle,Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, Brütal Legend, and the BAFTA award-winningPsychoauts.
If you have any questions for Mr. Schafer, this call will be your best opportunity to ask them, so feel free to post anything you’d liek to know in the comment thread below. Tim’s call will conclude with an auction lot donated by our friend Steven Dengler, and you will not want to miss it.
How do you get into the games industry? It seems everyone is looking for people who have been in the industry for years.
How did you come up with physchonauts?
I’m sure someone asked this or will ask it or it has been asked before but, if in fact, you were to make a second psychonauts game what would the premise be? Would the story continue with Raz or would we follow a different character? Would it still be at the camp or would it be something else entirely?
Actually to add to above question how did you get a studio to take the risk with the
game surely it wasn’t easy?
What is your favorite game that you have designed? And why?
Dear Dr Schafer,
Have you considered doing a “spiritual successor” of Brütal Legend? Perhaps involving other genres of Heavy Metal?
What was your favorite game to work on with the SCUMM engine?
Is there any line or scene from a game you have worked on that is particularly memorable to you for any reason?
Was there ever anything that ended up working better/worse than anyone had expected once it hit retail?
Big fan of all your work, Mr. Schafer. Thanks for taking the time to hang out with everyone here ^_^
Hey Mr. Schafer,
What video games inspired you to get into the game industry?
Is there anything left from early Psychonauts development when the main character was an insane ostrich, or has all evidence been destroyed?
Dear Dr.Tim: Who is your favorit pony!
dear dr. shafer, why did you make a sesame street game?
Will you drive the bus?
Dear Doctor Schafer, which game you have worked on is your favourite?
Why did double fine make a sesame street game?
Are you dovahkin?
Now that LucasArts has released some of their other classic titles on services like Steam, is there any hope we’ll see a re-release of Grim Fandango?
I understand why you’d moved to smaller more frequent games but will you ever move back to any big games on the Scale of Psychonauts or Brutal Legend?
Is there a way we can show our appreciation of you?
Dear Mr. Schafer
I want to study game-design but my father thinks its stupid…
What did your parents said when you told them you want to make videogames?
Any chance of teaming up with Telltale Games for any future projects?
Did you ever consider creating Psychonauts 2?
If you didn’t, could you imagine it being a bad idea?
Thank you
Darmort
Are you through with Costume Quest, or do you plan to continue with future DLC? Perhaps an Easter Edition?
Will you apologize for the meat circus?
Hello Mr. Mister.
Is it possible to get into video game design without much knowledge in technology or computing?
Mr. Schafer,
normally i would take an opportunity like this to gush like the giddy fan boy i am, but I’m just going to ask this; Why am i not able to get grim fandango on steam? I missed it as a child because i was dumb as a kid and i really want to correct that mistake WITHOUT technically braking the law
If you were to make another family game like Once Upon A Monster, what franchises would interest you?
What kind of game do you want to make that you haven’t made yet and why?
Dear Dr. Schafer… If you had a magic time machine, with a built in one-wish leprechaun, and could go back in time to save/revive *one* and *only* one of the cancelled Lucas Arts Adventure Games franchises… Which one would you chose?
Dear Dr. Tim, Yahtzee described your games as juxtaposing the mundane with the bizarre; in that vein, would you consider creating a game involving a tour bus… driving across a DESERT?
Dearest Mr. Schafer,
First, thank you for creating the most excellent game Psychonauts, my favorite game of all time.
My question: have you considered creating a game involving the adventures of Sasha Nein and Milla Vodello? Because… that would be fantastic. If that’s too terribly specific, are there any secondary characters in your games that you wish you could make an entire game around?
My sincerest thanks!
Which would you rather make: Psychonauts 2, or Desert Bus 2, as you just described it?
With all these wonderful suggestions, can we expect DoubleFine to drop everything and make Desert Bus 2: Bus Brutaller?
Dear Doctor Schafer, what’s your favorite game you’ve made?
¡desde argentina saludos!!

“DECAPITAAATIOONN!!”
did you just come with that? or it was jack black
Dear Dr Schafer,
Is there a chance we’ll see something like a SCUMM 2.0 engine in the future?
Have you thought about making more Point & Click Adventure games?
What are your thoughts on SOPA and other bills like it?
Dear Dr. Schafer,
Which is your favourite game you worked on, and which is your favourite game you didn’t work on?
Dear Dr Schafer, are there any historical games that you feel have had a large influence on you?
How many songs did you have to cut from the Brutal Legend soundtrack? And are there any songs you WANTED on there, but couldn’t get (for whatever reasons).
What movies, games, or shows influenced your sense of humor the most?
Dear Dr.Tim: What is your opionon on SOPA. Also whos your favorit pony.
Dear Captain Schaffer,
Do you think you’d be capable of murder?
Dear Tim
Why did Brutal Legend come out the same day as Uncharted 2?
Dear Tim. Why kind of big ides of your did you implent in the monkey islands?
Dear Tim,
Finally got around to learning about (via Zero Punctuation) and playing (via Steam) Psychonauts. Amazing all of the way through. What, if you remember, was going through your mind when the Goggalor level was created?
Dear Doctor Schafer. Cake, or Pie?
Dear Tim
did you every play any of the lisure suit larry games? did they inspire you for monkey island?
Dear Tim,
What are your feelings on DRM and the more invasive forms of copy protection?
Hey Tim, to make this quick, if I had some cash in my back pocket- NOT front pocket, I’m allergic- for example, a few 100k, or 1mil, how much would be enough to fund a sequel to one of our beloved Double Fine games?
Thanks, and you gave me a Brütal Legend code a while back for sending you a message, the gamertag was Jrmint A.
