As of 6:35am PST, the Desert Bus for Hope stopped!!! THANK GOD!

In the end we ended up raising $22,805. Nothing in this world could have prepared us for this kind of support. Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement, the donations, the food, and thanks to all that stayed up countless hours to keep us entertained in the chat. This would have not been possible if it wasn’t for you guys.

Also just a huge thanks to everyone out there that was kind enough to throw us a link, give us a radio/tv interviews and just for telling a friend. And on top of all these people a huge thanks needs to go out to Penn and Teller. It is safe to say that your support kept us going at 3:30 in the morning, knowing a phone call could be a matter of hours away from you guys was always a HUGE moral boost. Thanks so much for the support and the food. You guys are fantastic.

We are looking into maybe doing a quick live video re-cap of the event on Thursday night, more information to follow.

  2. “Nothing in this world could have prepared us for this kind of support.”

    Support? Or twisted sadism?

Kidding. Congratulations guys. Really, that’s an amazing amount of money…

Oh, also we demand that Morgan goes through with his 109 hour. GOGO.

  6. This has truly been an amazing feat shared by both the LRR crew & all their supporters. It was a pleasure to watch your continued torment & an honour to have been given the opportunity to take part in it, especially being able to communicate with you in real-time, which makes the comradery that much greater. It was a pleasure to endure the long, long weekend with you & I admire you all. Thank you and congratulations! ~ Evil Jim

  15. Next year, 8% increase per hour.

Actually, maybe 20% would be safer.

    By Sarah - November 28th, 2007 11:12 am
  16. Congratulations, guys, you did a bang-up job and raised some serious coin for an awesome charity by going WAY above and beyond the call of duty.

    … see you next year?

  22. Though I never got into chat I was informed what you were doing for child’s play and stayed up and watched you guys rooting when you hit another thousand and laughing at all the silly jokes. You guys are truly great and hope you do it again next year. I know you have inspired a lot of people. You have shown you don’t really need to do anything truly physical like run a race to get money for charity, all you need is determination, good friends, and the ability to hold a controller. Again congrats and thank you

    By Kristin - November 28th, 2007 11:47 am
  23. Spectacular finish LRR!

  25. Congrats on the successful run guys! I was a little sad this morning when I realized you would not be on again, but I bet you’re relieved to have finished. You all deserve a long break.

    By Jen - November 28th, 2007 12:05 pm
  26. Amazing job… seriously.

Although, correct me if I’m wrong… the current time only shows 108 hours (96+12), while the time limit is 109…. Not to be sadistic, but do you owe Desert Bus another hour???

I mean, for the kids, right?

    By Inversed - November 28th, 2007 12:09 pm
  27. Hope you guys can finally get some rest. :)

I think the whole community is blown away by what you’ve done here.

    By Shoebox - November 28th, 2007 12:12 pm
  28. What was your score at the end? There should be a desert bus high score board somewhere :p

    By dr-spangle - November 28th, 2007 12:26 pm
  29. hey everyone, i’m glad your suffering is over for now, you all are what i would consider to be ‘the best of the best’ when it comes to the human spirit. To inflict pain upon one’s self for the sake of helping poor, sick children have happiness has to be one of the most considerate (if not batshit crazy) things someone can do in their life.
If there is a heaven or a hell, you’ve earned your ticket to the pearly gates.

    By Ridetsu - November 28th, 2007 12:29 pm
  30. Defiantly want to extend my congrats to the crew! From comp science in grade 12 to this! ha, very well done and I would never hope this game upon you again!

    By Nigel Brown - November 28th, 2007 12:33 pm
  31. I think they got donations to push them into 109 hours after they stoped. and yes they did give the donation 5 minutes to tally in so I don’t say they owe Desert Bus another hour.

    By Mats - November 28th, 2007 12:38 pm
  32. You guys are great! I kept the live feed going every moment I was at a computer for the last 3 days – my roommates love/hate me for it, but I was blown away to see it top 20,000.

Other than “three PS3s”, I hadn’t ever seen the other LRR videos…Thanks to desert bus, I’ve already gone through the entire archive on your site. Rock.

  35. This was really an inspiration. I once wrote an article called “hacking for the homeless” for a magazine I put out for RantMedia. The topic was using your “geekdom” to think of ways to benefit others and charity. This certainly makes the list. I think it’s safe to say, you pwned desert bus.

    By alienbinary - November 28th, 2007 1:18 pm
  36. I was one of the very-last-minute donators ($243) to try and extend their run (in fact, I clicked pay right as they were cheering at the end). I have to say, I don’t regret missing the bus (rimshot) on getting them an extra hour, and I’m fine with my donation going through. This was awesome indeed, and I’m totally down with their idea of running Desert Bus on XBLA next year as a sort of “drive for kids” group effort thing.

    By Caravan - November 28th, 2007 1:21 pm
  37. For the “missing the bus” pun I award Caravan .5 of a Desert Bus Point (which is A LOT)

    Gratz guys?

Your contribution is going to make so many children delighted.

  42. Dammit, I set my alarm so I could see the end but it never went off.

Good job on making a lot of sick kids happy this Christmas.

    By Stephieface - November 28th, 2007 2:12 pm
Okay, i know you guys really need some rest, but i am kinda surprised right now to see the “game over” message all of a sudden. Sad. I just thought (hoped) this would go on forever.
It was a wonderful event, though. Thanks LRR for doing this, i had so much fun watching you ride that damn bus!

    By STROMKOPF - November 28th, 2007 2:18 pm
  46. I’m sure you guys are gonna get REALLY tired of hearing this eventually.

But thank you very much, for presenting a new and entertaining twist to this yearly tradition. And for providing the entire gaming community a chance to join as one, and bask in the seemingly endless schaddenfreude of your trials and tribulations.

And congratulations on sticking it out and seeing the ordeal through to the end.

Sadly my office blocks the streaming video and I couldn’t see the finish. I’d love to see a highlight reel of the event if you’re willing to sift through the 4.5 days worth of video. ^_^

  47. oh the memorable moments

  48. For all those who missed the Finalle, it’s up on the site. It’s the first past clip on the left.

And for those of you coping with abandonment the second clip from the left is 5 hours long, happy viewing!

Also, yeah I sent an e-mail shortly after they updated with the 109 hours thing and got a response stating the same. Despite Bill’s enthusiasm to keep going till Morgan got another shift they cut off the tally at $243.16 to the next total and went over 5 minutes after they were supposed to stop.

    By Mechsae - November 28th, 2007 2:54 pm

  50. AWESOME job guys!

    We’ll see you next year!

  51. Truly a spectacular fund raiser. It’s like the Relay for Life, except in a Desert on a Bus…

I actually dreamed of Desert Bus. I’m not sure if that’s good or not.

    By Scone - November 28th, 2007 3:33 pm
  52. Caravan, yeah sorry it didn’t come through in time, because I DID want Morgan to have to drive again, but as it is, I had class at 9:30AM, so finishing at 6:30AM was bad enough.
    Thanks though!

If we do our live feed wrap-up on Thursday, we’ll make him play during it.

    By Graham - November 28th, 2007 3:35 pm
  53. That compromise pleases me! 😀

  55. Great job, I really enjoyed watching you guys and all your jokes.
A must have for next year… Andy! Maybe a show tune every hour on the hour or every time you hit a thousand mark!
    Congrats and great job!

    By Sara - November 28th, 2007 3:43 pm
  56. By the fifth year, you’ll be driving a real bus from Tucson to Las Vegas and back, and broadcasting live to us via satellite!

    By Caravan - November 28th, 2007 3:45 pm
  57. Look forward to the SECOND annual desert bus for hope!

    By Andy - November 28th, 2007 3:51 pm
  58. Yeah… we’ll need a little while to clear our heads, and to stop seeing air freshener’s floating in front of our eyes, before we decide what’s happening next year.

    By Graham - November 28th, 2007 3:56 pm
  59. Well done guys!

  60. Congrats LRR!

I’m kinda bummed I missed the end, but I’m really glad I could spend so much of the time (pretty much my entire weekend, haha) with you guys! It was time well spent.

So amazing on the 22k! I hope you three do something along these lines next year.

Here’s to hoping for that live feed wrap-up on Thursday.

    By Kcha - November 28th, 2007 4:35 pm
  61. Grats to LRR 😀

I’ve been trying to come up with a good Child’s Play fund raiser, but yours is was better than anything I’ve managed to dream up 😉

Great job, and thanks for the good times. I look forward to next year.

    By Alonzo - November 28th, 2007 5:24 pm
  62. I think I only missed about 30 or so hours of the thing, total. I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself now that it’s gone. D=

Great job though, guys. What might be more amazing than the $22k is the fact that you managed to stay entertaining even at 2 am after 4 days of playing.

    By Ijzer - November 28th, 2007 5:28 pm
  63. I’m not sure about what I can say that hasn’t been said before, but you guys did a very awesome job. I kept the Driver Cam running constantly (even while asleep!) and I was rather sad to wake up to the camera being off air.

This was a brilliant idea and you will for sure make a lot of people, not just children, very happy. Congrats!

    By ZephCrow - November 28th, 2007 5:53 pm
  64. I can’t believe it’s over. But hey, I got to see the end right as my school bus (heh, bus…) pulled up, so… WHOO LRR! You guys ish teh amazings! This is gonna make a ton of kids happy this Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa/Winter Solstice/remotely holiday-related period of time taking place within November through February. Also, for all you reading this, here are my $22k images:

  74. A few requests:

hey, my browser wont let me open the chat, so im just gonna ask you from this message. Could one of you sing “Kung Fu Fighting”? Could one of you just fart out loud? Could one of you breakdance? And could one of you say “that’s what she said” to whatever Morgan says? Those are all my requests for now. Thank you in advance!

and also I have a Dr. Morgan question

    Dear Dr. Morgan

I have suddenly grown blue fur, my eyes have suddenly bloated. They are huge and pop outside of my face. One of them is actually bigger than the other. I also have a strange craving for cookies and I cannot control it. What should I do?
