  1. How do you choose which games get songs? Do you just take the biggest game that came out in that month and make a song of it, or is personal feeling on the game a factor aswell?

  2. I love how many of your songs, such as “Breaking Down the Borders,” seem to stay true to the musical aesthetic of the games or movies that inspire them. How important is it for you to do this when creating them?

  10. Hey Dr. Gavin! First of: You are awesome and Rise is actually one of my favorite songs ever. Now for the question(s): Are you going to make retrospective songs or are you going to keep to current games/films? What I’m really asking is if there ever will be a Firefly song? 😀

    Much love, your fan Jesper

  12. While most of your songs tend to match the movie or videogame which is the subject of them in terms of tone, theme, and general feel, some are deliberately different in these respects. What’s your method in choosing how to approach a particular song, and how do you figure out what to write for it?

  13. Gavin,

Personally I loved your instrumental tribute to Mass Effect 3 (The Crucible) I was wondering will we ever get any more of those instrumental music? Not that I don’t like your singing voice, I would just love another song like Crucible is all.

  23. I was at the Escapist Expo, and I want to say the concert was awesome!!!!!!
Anyway; You said for a long time that you couldn’t write a Halo song because you didn’t feel inspired from the games. What is different about Halo 4?

Was there a specific event in your life that made you start writing and making music and what was the first instrument you learned to play.

  28. I, like many others, was pleasantly surprised by a new song so soon after the last one. Would you say that, when you’re inspired to write a song, you’re compelled to start work immediately, and do you find it impossible to do anything else until it’s done?

  35. On Encore you often appear dismissive of nonsense criticism, which no one can blame you for. How good are you at accepting and incorporating legitimate criticism that you might not agree with?

  38. Overall, what would you say that your more ‘fun’ song was? Either to make, for people to listen to, or just because it’s goofy. Personal choice is HAMMER THE BUTTONS AND WIGGLE THE STICKS!
