First we have Becki Steel
Becki Steel has spent the past 10 years supporting children and families as a Child Life Specialist, using play and preparation to reduce stress and promote coping during hospital visits. As the Child Life Practice Lead at Victoria General Hospital, she continues to champion play as a vital therapeutic tool in pediatric care.
With support from Child’s Play Charity and Desert Bus for Hope, Becki has helped bring technology-based play—such as gaming, VR, and interactive tools—into the hospital to improve comfort and engagement for young patients. Their support also made it possible for Camosun College’s Engineering Department to develop a custom MRI simulator, allowing children to practice for their MRI in advance and significantly reducing the need for sedation.
This year marks Becki’s first visit to Desert Bus for Hope, where she looks forward to sharing how these partnerships help transform the hospital experience for sick and injured children.

Tina joined the Victoria Hospitals Foundation team in May 2025. A fundraising professional since 2018, Tina is energized by opportunities to bring people together and create positive social impact through philanthropy. She is delighted to be connected to the good work of Child’s Play Charity through a creative project that welcomed a pediatric MRI simulator to the Victoria General Hospital – an innovation that is already helping children learn about and try out a simulated MRI experience before going through the real thing. Thanks to Child’s Play Charity and Desert Bus for Hope, children and their families receive extra care and support throughout their MRI journe

It's natural that on something as long-running as Desert Bus, groups start to develop certain reputations. Like, Zeta is goofy, Alpha Flight has their bus together, and Dawn Guard really loves coffee. Well, we're here to break down those preconceptions and show you that we're about more than coffee! Coffee doesn't define us; it doesn't consume our every waking moment; it doesn't lure us like a siren on the sea. It's not like we need to just inhale it like life-giving oxygen...
You know what, nevermind. Sometimes the hype is real. And our hype is coffee, as well as coffee-related sporting events. Speaking of, today's coffee pong was a clash of titans between James and Referee Ashton! Look at that called shot. Look at that swish.
Not to be outdone on his own court, Referee Ashton answered with a game-sealing swish of his own.
But the athletic prowess for the day did not stop there. When it comes to Jenga, Liz may not have clinched the win, but she did have the slickest move of the day.
And James pledged to dance for every thousand dollars raised.
Do you think he regretted that? Maybe somewhere around the point where we reached $12.5 million lifetime raised? Stay strong, James: it's for the children!
What awaits us tomorrow? Well, only time (specifically 18 hours' worth of it) will tell, but we did poke the bear that is our own Minecraft server. So maybe we've set ourselves up for trouble there?
Okay, so. Maybe the copious coffee got to our heads a little today. 🫤
