First we have Becki Steel

Becki Steel has spent the past 10 years supporting children and families as a Child Life Specialist, using play and preparation to reduce stress and promote coping during hospital visits. As the Child Life Practice Lead at Victoria General Hospital, she continues to champion play as a vital therapeutic tool in pediatric care.

With support from Child’s Play Charity and Desert Bus for Hope, Becki has helped bring technology-based play—such as gaming, VR, and interactive tools—into the hospital to improve comfort and engagement for young patients. Their support also made it possible for Camosun College’s Engineering Department to develop a custom MRI simulator, allowing children to practice for their MRI in advance and significantly reducing the need for sedation.

This year marks Becki’s first visit to Desert Bus for Hope, where she looks forward to sharing how these partnerships help transform the hospital experience for sick and injured children.

Second we have Tina Belcourt

Tina joined the Victoria Hospitals Foundation team in May 2025. A fundraising professional since 2018, Tina is energized by opportunities to bring people together and create positive social impact through philanthropy. She is delighted to be connected to the good work of Child’s Play Charity through a creative project that welcomed a pediatric MRI simulator to the Victoria General Hospital – an innovation that is already helping children learn about and try out a simulated MRI experience before going through the real thing.
