Giveaway: Journey to Mordor: A Tablet Woven Tapestry
November 16, 2025 at 11:21 AM PST
Posted by Soraya
A tapestry depicting the main characters from Lord of the Rings silhouetted against a sunset sky. Below them is text in the Lothlorien font but your poor alt-text writer has no idea what it says.

ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY DONATE TO DESERT BUS! Actually, uh, one does. One very much does do that, and if you want a chance to bring this woven Fellowship home, that is exactly what you'll have to do.

But don't worry! It's not too hard! Just set up a donor account (if you haven't already) and donate $9.15 (or multiples thereof) before 11:45am for a chance to win!

Silent Auctions: Of Dragons and Data

Turn on that fireplace and curl up for a cozy one, because we have just started some silent auctions that you will absolutely want to take a nap with.

Databus Quilt mk.2

The data quilt is back! Snuggle up with the whole history of Desert Bus (as represented by color-coded squares). There aren't many quilts that need their own figure caption sewn into the backside to explain the data encoded within them, and we think that's a major flex.

Loot Needle-Felted Art Doll

A gif of a needle-felt art doll (13 inches tall) rotates to show the Magic: the Gathering character Loot, a small bipedal orange dragon wearing a blue cape. At the end of the gif, the lights turn off to showcase that Loot has a fully lit tail.

Loot? More like CUTE! This adorable Noble Beast from Magic: the Gathering stands 13" tall and is probably even softer than you imagine. He can be gently posed and lovingly snuggled all the way into the evening hours where you'll get to enjoy his fairy-lit tail (batteries included with the prize!)

You'll have 8 hours to sleepily ponder your options, so check out these items and place any bids before 6pm PT!

Top-down view of a hand-crafted wooden box with silvery-blue inlays carved into the lid. The inlays are the symbols of the five Tarkir clans from Magic: the Gathering.

Your Commanders work hard so you can play hard, so surely they deserve a glamorous hard(wood) case to rest in! This hand-crafted carrying case featuring the symbols from the 5 Tarkir clans contains four deck boxes, each with a special pocket where your hard-working Commander can take a nap alongside your favorite tokens.

Donate $6.41 (or multiples thereof) by 11am PT for a chance to win!

An image of a sandstone brick storefront with large, bright windows. An inviting blue bench sits out front. Superimposed above the image is a logo that reads: Pegasus Games, Games you never outgrow.

Giveaway: Dungeon Master Super Book Bundle

A stack of D&D books including the Deck of Many Things, Keys from the Golden Vault, Quests from the Infinite Staircase, and more!

Hope springs eternal when it comes to D&D. First you get a bunch of books, then you get a group together, then you play about 2-3 sessions before people start being too busy to make the next session. Eventually you start from fresh with new books, new people, and new schedule conflicts - thus contributing to the great circle of D&D life!

This huge collection of 8 beautiful D&D books (and one deck) will jumpstart your journey into the cycle. Think of it like a cheat code or a "skip cinematic" button for the first part where you normally have to buy all these books individually! Gosh, you could get so many cycles out of this set.

Donate $5.49 USD or multiples thereof before 9am PT for your chance to win!

Art Challenge: Dawn Good News!
November 16, 2025 at 06:26 AM PST
Posted by Soraya

Wake up, shake away your blues,
Tune in for some Dawn Good news!
Tell us something to amuse:
We could use some Dawn Good news!

The checkered gray-and-white background of a transparent png file scrolls repeatedly past the screen. In the top left corner is the icon for a broken image: a ripped page with several colorful shapes drawn on in super low resolution.
Our Dawn Good News intro is missing something... what could it be...

We've got a recurring bit, we've got a catchy jingle - now all we need is a logo that really ties the news together like The Dude's rug. (That's still a relevant reference, right?)

So please, whip out those art skills and design us a logo for Dawn Good News. (Transparent backgrounds are appreciated but not required!) JPGs, GIFs, and PNGs are all good but no AI art!

When sending a submission, please include your name (with pronuciation guide) and pronouns so we can celebrate you! Title your email Dawn Good News Logo and send it to: contest@desertbus.org

The winner will receive a Mystery Box full of surprising goodies randomly selected from previous years' merch. The best way to find out what's inside is to win it!

We made it through another one! We're getting really good at this.

We showed off our fluency in corporate-speak!

We shared treasured childhood memories!

We let 'er rip!

We got philosophical!

We put stuff in our mouths!

We took a trip to the Bone Zone!

And, best of all, we committed a friendship!

Good night! We love you. See you in eighteen hours!
