Michael and Tifa Robles will be calling into Desert Bus at 11am PST on Sunday, November 16th.
Mike Robles was the Community Manager for Wizards of the Coast, specializing in Magic: The Gathering for almost three years from 2010 until March 2013. Where he focused on tactics, planning and execution of Social Media updates along with convention planning.
For the last year and a half he has been the Community Coordinator for Microsoft. He has created content for the social media pages for the Age of Empires franchise, Microsoft Flight, Wordament, Team Crossword, and AlphaJax. He is responsible for planning and carrying out some convention activities. As well as writing, editing, and hosting the weekly Youtube show for the Official Wordament channel.
Mike can be found on tumblr, twitter, and doing improv with Unexpected Productions in Seattle.
Tifa Robles was the Assistant Brand Manager for Magic: The Gathering for two years until the end of 2013. Where she managed design and copy processes for products and advertising, helped with promotions and partnerships, and was a co-host of the DailyMTG podcast.
For the last year she’s been the Games Producer for the Xbox Dashboard, creating and managing content for the Games section of the Xbox Dashboard for Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Starting midway in 2011 Tifa organized and founded The Lady Planeswalker Society in Seattle, who meet up at and are supported by Card Kingdom. The Lady Planeswalkers are a group with a focus on creating a welcoming environment for women (and anyone else) who wants to learn and play Magic in a low pressure inclusive environment.
She can be found on twitter and writes about her personal experiences on tumblr.
Together Mike and Tifa make videos for their Youtube channel, Video Time with Mike & Tifa, where they discuss their lives, review games, and talk about all things nerdy.
Have a question for Mike and Tifa? Leave them in the comments below!
What is your funniest/oddest family tradition?
As is Tradition
A question for each: What is your favorite Magic Card and why?
Dear Dr Mike,
Late at night, when Tifa has been out all night teaching people to play magic and planeswalking to make the community a more inclusive and welcoming environment for people of all types and genders. Do you ever wish you had married me instead of her?
Lord Hosk.
Hi Mike and Tifa! What are your favorite decks/formats to play right now?
Are there any fun traditions at the Wizards of the Coast?
As is Tradition
Dear Drs. Tifa and Mike,
Please give us a recommendation for a game or a show that we are probably not currently watching/playing but should be. Thanks!
A question for both Mike and Tifa: You’re sitting down to a game of Commander. Who are your Commanders and why?
Dear Dr Mike,
How long until Banding is brought back into MTG?
Geoff
Dear Dr Tifa,
I read on the internet that women dont play magic, Is that true?
How cool was that guy who got Mike a glass of water at 4:30 AM at LRRcon?
😛
How are you guys? Like for real how is life? You guys rock.
But also what are each of your favorite decks to play?
If it wasn’t for MTG what would you be doing?
What has been your biggest pleasant surprise to come out of LPS?
Dear Dr Tifa,
How far in the world has LPS reached by now?
What kind of parallels have you experienced between your work on Magic and your work with Microsoft (especially Killer Instinct)? Also, do you each have a preferred EDH general?
I absolutely love Magic, but I’m not good enough for high-level tournament play yet (though I’d like to be). As an introverted, self-deprecating perfectionist, what is the best way for me to be more involved with the community at large?
Dear Mike,
You are awesome. Tifa’s pretty swell too.
Love,
Jimmy
So Mike and Tifa where can people find out more information on getting involved in LPS and the great community around it :D?
For those who are not aware, how would someone go about adding a more local chapter of the LPS into their gaming community, or otherwise become a part of the LPS community themselves?
Do you have any plans on doing something in the KI community or larger FGC community like the Lady Planeswalker Society? As a FGC Tournament Organizer myself, I try to make my community as inclusive as possible, especially towards women, but I feel like it would be great to have more structured events within the larger community to promote inclusiveness.
What do you think is the best way to get people interested in Magic The Gathering?
Because I want to teach some people, but I’m not sure how to get them to want to play.
Dear Tifa and/or LRR,
Do you know if there is plans for a official Victoria Chapter of the LPS? I’m getting super jealous of my friends who attend the current lady-only event.
Is there a list of the LPS chapters? My partner is thinking about starting one locally but we want to know if there’s one near us already.
