final lap

We’re within sight of the finish line, folks.

As I write this, we are at 154-and-one-half hours into about 155+1 of our Desert Bus marathon. It’s been a real privilege to be able to share this journey with you all week, and I am especially lucky to be able to blog you through the home stretch.

It’s been quite a week, with loads of unforgettable moments, and I have a feeling we might still have something special on tap for our grand finale.

What were some of your favorite memories — happy, funny, sad, or anything — from this year’s Desert Bus? Let us know in the comments!

  1. Tuning in at 3 in the morning to see a bunch of shirtless guys dancing to Gay Bar around a fallen Jenga set was pretty magical.

  2. All the Feels when Raiger gave Dix the Glass DB7 Ornament, I am not ashamed to admit I cried

  3. I have to say my favourite moment just happened. During the story time with Liz everyone broke, and so did I. I’m going through a slight crisis with my dad’s health, whose been diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago, and probably won’t live for another year. It’s difficult to come to terms with, as we had the final diagnose just yesterday. Seeing the bussers cry and share their stories really made me think of what’s happening in my own life. I wish to thank you all, and I love you all.
    Thank you.

  4. I wish I was watching when the crew beat last year’s total… I’m sure that would have been my favorite moment of this Desert Bus. As it stands, however, the 100,000 dollar celebratory “The Fox” is the favorite moment I was able to watch live.

  5. I made a challenge, “Live Action Mini-masters” and they actually DID it (well!) It was awesome to watch, and I was more than happy to donate.

  6. So many. Reaching the $2,000,000 barrier was the best, for sure, but I’ve got too many others to list here! :)

  8. Could anyone tell me how high the highest Jenga tower was so I can donate for it?

  9. My Top 5:

    5) Winning the silent auction I won. I know that’s not something that happened on air, but it still made me very giddy. Thank you all so much. Sonic 2 was the first game I ever owned, so I’m sure it’ll fill me with lots of nice nostalgia every time I see it.

    4) Bill’s Mom’s Feels story about Bill and his sister =( Very sad, very feels.

    3) Everyone’s shocked expression when Gay Bar ruined that Jenga Tower.

    2) Papers Please Skit. That thing made me laugh far too hard.

    1) and most important: leaving to hang out with friends while Paul still needs over 80K to make him go to the end of his shift and, while hopeful, thinking there’s no way he can make it. And then coming home 6 hours later to see that he did, and just in time for the final Bus Down! Go Paul! Go all the donors! Go DB team! That made my day, week, and month!

  10. The top for me is easily when Bill’s Mom, Liz, and the others talked about how important charity is. That was the most pure and sincere display of emotions I have seen in years and it will stick with me for the rest of my life.

When Raiger gave Dix the stained glass DB7 ornament it was such a feel-good bomb that I got pretty teary-eyed. It really showed how strong and kind this community is.

And, to take it down a bit as I’m getting a little choked up just remembering these, when Graham broke Alex during QWERPline with ASS: The Musical he nearly broke me as well, I had to struggle to stay in my chair. Oh man, and when Cam got taken to the gay bar by Ian I nearly lost it as well.

    Such good, so feels, wow.

  11. There is just too much to choose from. So I am just gonna go ahead and say: Anything Andy and Alex were involved in, those guys just kill me.

  12. I’m going for skeletor singing and twerking to Wrecking Ball. So wrong, but so, so right :-)

The ‘make it stop’ moment and gif with Graham is a close 2nd http://i.imgur.com/8zVWrlu.gif

Thanks for bussing – see you next time.

  13. Realizing when everyone was frantically trying to pull Dix up to the camera that Raiger was giving him the stained glass.

Walked in the room from dinner with my MIL to find everyone in tears, and Bill’s Mom’s words sinking in. You are so amazing. You are all so amazing.

Forcing myself to stay awake to see 500k.

Hearing “Gypsy Rover,” live. Love it!

Watching the early early morning crew go slightly (or more than slightly) crazed with lack of sleep.

    Crazy auctions!

    Watching Bill Corbett’s Call-in.

  14. 1) “Ass” the musical totally critical-hitting Alex.

    2) Club soda on a pole.
