Greetings all, and welcome to the official site of the first annual “Desert Bus for Hope” Our goal is simple, raise as much money possible for one of the best charities out there right now. I think it would be safe to say that the diseases that children face everyday are horrible and we would all like nothing more than to see everyone of them cured and home in time for the holidays. Unfortunately that is not the reality with many of them, and while there are hundreds of charities out there contributing to the research and cure for them, some might lose sight of what the children have to go through on a day to day basis. That is where Child’s Play comes in. The basic principal is simple, give people the option to either contribute cash to the charity or go online to individual hospitals wishlish site and purchase a video game or a toy for the children in the hospital.

Our goal is even more simple. You donate money, one dollar, ten dollars, one-hundred dollars and not only are you donating to Child’s Play but you are also making a bunch of idiots up in Canada play a very boring and never ending game. So for anyone that donates to Child’s Play on a yearly basis, think of it this way. You could donate twenty dollars through the Child’s Play Website, or you could donate your money through our website, your money is going to exactly the same place but you get to force us to play Desert Bus for just that much longer.

One thing i can’t stress enough, if you want to see us keep playing you must donate through our paypal account. Rest assured that every cent that you donate is going to go to the Child’s Play Charity. To keep it easy for us to keep track of how much we earned we needed our own paypal account. And as an added bonus we have decided that we would front the Paypal service fee. Which means none of the money you donate is going to get taken away as a transaction fee.

If this sounds like a good way to donate some money this year to a great cause please hit the “Make a Donation” button to the right. If you would like to learn more please check out the Pages category to the right of the page. You will find what Child’s Play is all about under the “About Child’s Play” link. Find out exactly how your money is going to factor in to how much longer we are going to be playing under “The Donation Process“. And finally under “The Rules of Desert Bus” you will find a short blurb about the game in question, how we are going about playing it, and a video of the game being played.

Thank you once again for your time. Happy Donating

  7. The Press Release date seems to be incorrect, November 12th is a Monday, not a Tuesday :) But good luck!

  9. Protip: when doing something for charity, appeal to those who aren’t fucking morons by offering something that isn’t worth less than simply donating to the goddamned charity.

Seeing as Child’s Play is not exclusive, my suggestion is that instead of basing your little drive on the most absolutely fucktarded pretense possible in the fucktarded land of fucktard that is the mass fucktard gaming community (otherwise known as the Penny Arcade demographic), you offer yourselves to be viciously beaten in the face by me at the rate of 5 cents per minute. That way you get to be of some actual entertainment value, as opposed to being the lowest form of scum-sucking attention-whores possible who are looking to latch on to a charity to excuse their complete and utter lack of anything better to do with their pathetic lives.

I think the interest is there. I know it totally is on my end. 5 cents per minute. American or Canadian, doesn’t really matter at this point.

  10. Holy Crap!!! Are you THE Jon Rose, the Australian violinist??

  11. To the flame comment posted above,

I feel that you have missed the point of the event completely. Yes, by donating money to Desert Bus for Hope, it does have no less reward than if we paid for them to get punched in the face. HOWEVER, the point of this event is NOT to see them play a pointless game for hours on end, it is to help children who are stuck in a hospital bed with nothing else to do by providing their hospitals with entertaining diversions from sitting in the room and waiting for the next dose of medicine to be injected.

If nothing else, this is meant to raise awareness of Child’s Play as well as raise money for them to use. So attacking the people who are trying to make a difference in the world, however small, is not conducive to the discussion or the charity itself. If you disagree with what they are doing, support a cause that YOU deem worthy, instead of being totally misanthropic.

  12. OMG, Jon Rose! I love your music! Can I get an autograph?

    By Graham - November 11th, 2007 4:12 pm
  13. Well said Philanthropist, well said. For Jon Rose: they have already raised 500 dollars and they are paying the transfer fees so…

    By Jamesthewarrior - November 11th, 2007 4:14 pm
  14. Jon Rose, are you aware that that was the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard? The point isn’t to play as much Desert Bus as possible. It’s to donate to Child’s Play, a very worthy cause. So I’d appreciate if you just went and rotted in hell. KTHXBAI!

  15. Guys, he said it was a pro-tip. He’s a pro. And he was very eloquent. Maybe we should listen to him.

  17. Wait, what, this ISN’T about making them play Desert Bus?

Won’t somebody stop thinking about the children?!

    By Allen - November 12th, 2007 10:18 am
  18. For Jon Rose:
Your absolutely right, and I’m going to do exactly what you said – BUT – your language is foul, so nah.

    For LoadingReadyRun Crew:
I love your work (as in the videos you create), and I feel that your idea here is well done. The Child’s Play charity is a very worthy cause, and I wish you best of luck in your endeavor.

    By Daniel - November 13th, 2007 12:07 am
  19. I approve of this idea it’s a very amusing thought that by donating to a great Charity that it obligates the LLR Crew to play ‘Desert Bus’**shudders** any ways more power to ya

  20. A great idea guys, and I was very ahppy to donate to such a good cause – with the added benefit of tormenting you guys for a few more hours :)

  23. En tant que Québécois vous me rendez fier d’être Canadien…

And since most of you (ROC) don’t speak or read the second language of our beautiful country 😛

As a Québécois you (LRR) make me proud to be Canadian.

  27. Laff, that isn’t me saying the desert bus thing.
    This is me saying it:

Desert Bus more like Gay Bus lol

    By Lavos - November 16th, 2007 10:48 pm
  28. Disregard that, I suck cocks.

    By Lavos - November 17th, 2007 12:10 am
  29. stop pretending to be me you douchebags

    By Lavos - November 19th, 2007 5:10 pm
  30. Total Money $10.26 Hours 8 Days 0.33
    Total Money $102.07 Hours 31 Days 1.29
    Total Money $1070.80 Hours 64 Days 2.67
    >
    Total Money $10 104.50 Hours 97 Days 4.04

I’d like to see some smaller increments in here that will give some idea of how much needs to be donated per hour, also a coma instead of a space. It is amazing how it racks up!
Also, starting the spiel with pity for the children isn’t as engaging as your press release. I’d put that up front.
AND WE MUST HAVE PHOTOS AND PROFILES OF THE DRIVERS! Avitator glasses required.
Did you see the film THE BIG BUS? Nuclear powered bus traveling across country, kind of a cross between Airplane and The Long Trailer. Dress code and attitude have much to lend to your journey.

  32. Wow, what a hilarious idea 😀 I give you guys an A+ for originality…it’s just so ridiculous i couldn’t NOT donate. I’d never heard of this “desert bus” game until I read about your story in the TC today..I am shocked that such a game exists! Anyway, best of luck to you guys!

  33. At last Desert Bus has found its true calling. After all these years…

Thanks so much. You would have made our late collaborator on this project, Barry Marx, so proud and happy.

I’ll suggest our webmaster put a link to your site.

And I hope to check in with the drivers on their noble and grueling ordeal.
