I don't know if you have heard, but Desert Bus is a pretty big deal and there is a lot going on during the charity drive
and some viewers might have been missing out on all the sleep deprived tweets, late night chat shenanigans, and 2am
drawing contests. On Desert Bus Live we have distilled this media experience into a potent (and perhaps pungent)
liquor of twitter feeds, streaming video, and auto refreshing auction and blog panels to bring you all the Desert Bus
data all the time.
How does it work?
Well... you have clearly found the site so we will skip step 1. Desert Bus Live is a collection of sortable panels of data
ranging from twitter feeds to auctions, to the good old bus cam. You can find them all in the +Data Panel menu at the top of the page.
Data Panels
Most of what you need to get started has already been added, but if you deleted a panel or you want to add one we didn't pre-load, just click the data panel you are interested in and it will add it to the page. When the panel is added you'll get a little notification letting you know what occured. If the panel is already
on the page you'll get a friendly notification letting you know the panel doesn't need to be added again, you just need to scroll around a bit to find it.
Don't like how your panels are arranged? Move them around by dragging and dropping them from their panel header. You'll know your in the right spot when your cursor changes to a move crosshairs. To assist you in placing the panel, once you have dragged it over a droppable zone a small dotted outline box will appear where you are about to drop it. On some occasions you may be moving a giant panel to a smaller zone, and this can be tricky, just keep at it and you will hit it eventually. It's more of an art than a science. Like shooting womp rats.
Column Modes
We started you out with the standard all columns equivalent size but there are many other options to choose from. If you hover over the Column Mode button at the top of the page you will get a visual representation of what is available. Be forewarned though, if you go from a column mode that has more columns than the one you are selecting, the panels will just do their best to join the columns available... and if you go back to a higher column count, the panels will need to be moved into the new empty column created.
Saving Your Layout
Do you have cookies enabled?
Good! Then your layout saves automatically every time you make a change to it.
Don't have cookies enabled?
Sorry guys. There are plans in place for DB7 of having this hooked up to your donor account, but for now turn your cookies on if you want to save your layout.
That being said... if you ever clear your cache and cookies I feel bad for you son, I got 99 saves but your layout ain't one.
The Chat!
By default the chat will add you in as an unregistered user with whatever nick you provide. HOWEVER! If you are currently logged in to your donor account and put in your registered nickname, then the chat will get you set up right. Thats right... you will have voice and all that good stuff in the Desert Bus Live site, provided you are currently logged in with your donor account.
Known Bugs
The Auctions
There is a lot going on with the live site, and occasionally if you move either of the auction panels to a new column it will get a brain freeze. DO NOT PANIC CITIZEN. You can do one of the following to fix your panel.
1. Refresh!
2. Resize your window just a little, or a lot. I'm not the boss of you.
3. Move the panel again!
4. Activate your browsers console! (see 2).
