Sponsor Showcase 7: Bandai Namco

Posted by: Jer

Of all the corporate sponsors of Desert Bus, we really think Bandai Namco have really embraced the idea of “making us suffer for the children” the most. The box that Bandai Namco sent us was frankly… terrifying. Let’s be honest – we love children, and we want to raise a lot of money, but we think Bandai Namco might have it in for us. They donated an absolutely incredible mountain of their titles for us to auction off and give away. Titles for the DS like Dragonball Origins, Xbox 360 and PS3 games like Clash of the Titans and Dead to Rights, Tekken 6 for the PSP and games that for kids of all ages  like We Cheer 2 and Active Life Explorer for the Wii.
All together? Bandai Namco are responsible for an ASTOUNDING 59 PRIZES for Bandai Namco. This company is probably going to be personally responsible for untold hours of LRR’s suffering. A truly incredible display of generosity.
It’s incredibly generous donations like this that really help us make Desert Bus a special and inclusive event for everyone. We can give out more prizes, and that means even if all you can afford to donate is $5, or all you can do is help us spread the word, you can still get involved and win one of Bandai Namco’s great prizes. Please check out our giveaways and auction pages for the full listing of their goodies, and keep watching and helping us raise money for your chance to win.

Sponsor Showcase 6: Astro Gaming

Posted by: Jer

Astro Gaming has long been on our list of ‘dream sponsors’. Their high end, incredibly bespoke headphones and gaming equipment are something we all personally lust after at LoadingReadyRun and we’re incredibly excited to be able to auction off not just one, but two of their A30 Wireless Headphone sets. Offering incredible sound, multi-platform support and just looking really danged cool, these are the ultimate gaming headset.
Of course, if you want to win one of those headsets… you might be bidding again LRR crew members, so you’ve been warned. Even if we… er, you can’t win one of the incredible A30 Headsets, you can order your own set online by visiting Astro Gaming at  http://www.astrogaming.com.

Sponsor Showcase 5: FreeStyle Games

Posted by: Jer

FreeStyle Games are PERSONALLY responsible for spurring a Beastie Boys pandemic around Desert Bus HQ. How? Their incredible donation of two DJ Hero 2 Party Packs for the XBox 360 has us all saying “I’ve got two turntables and a microphone!” Why? Each party pack includes two full DJ Hero turntable sets and a wireless microphone for your party pleasure.
We’ll be auctioning off each of these packs during the week, so stay tuned for your chance to win one of these great prizes!
And finally, even more generously, Freestyle Games also donated a DJ Hero Party Pack just for LoadingReadyRun to use! Once we’ve all recovered from this year’s Desert Bus, we’re definitely going to throw down with some rap battles and pretend we’re cool. We’re not, but we’ll certainly be pretending we’re cool.
If you want to learn more about the great people at Freestyle Games, visit them online at http://www.freestylegames.com/

Sponsor Showcase 2: Harmonix

Posted by: Jer

Harmonix is Desert Bus for Hope’s longest running corporate sponsor – with us to furnish us with fabulous prizes since year 2, we’ve made it an official Desert Bus tradition to award the Harmonix Prize pack as the ‘grand prize’ of that year’s desert bus. Once again, Harmonix have really stepped up to the plate by donating us the biggest, most impressive bundle they’ve ever done.
This year’s Harmonix Grand Prize includes: Rock Band 3 (83 action packed tracks, Pro Mode, 7 player mode, drop in drop out, hundreds of in game goals, all the bells and whistles!) on the console of your choice along with an Xbox360 Telecaster guitar controller signed by the Harmonix devs!
So how can you win this fabulous prize? As we do every year, all you have to do to be eligible is donate to Child’s Play. At the end of the Marathon, we’ll use the Chipin data to pull the name of everyone who donated more than $5 over the course of Desert Bus 4. We do a random draw and that person wins. Simple as that!
So thank you once again to Harmonix for their incredible generosity! Please visit them online at http://www.harmonixmusic.com/.

Thanks to our Technical Sponsors!

Posted by: Jer

Desert Bus is a lot of work. But it’s not just a lot of work on our end to raise cash and give away prizes. There’s a lot of bandwidth going out to broadcast a high quality stream on YouStream, keep the blog updated, upload photos and pictures and then not to have everything slow down to a terrible crawl (as has happened in previous years).

This year, we’re going to be better, faster (and stronger) than ever thanks to our Technical Sponsors – Servint, Shaw Cable and Sharp’s Audio Visual.

Servint were our first sponsor for Desert Bus 4, and they are the reason you’re able to read this blog post at all. They are donating all the hosting for this year, providing unlimited uploads and an enterprise level service package to keep the Desert Bus site on the air. With Servint’s help, the slowdowns and bandwidth grinding that have plagued us in previous years will be a thing of the past.

Of course, we need to upload information as well, and Shaw Cable really stepped up this year and donated their fastest tier of internet service to us for the week – the appropriately sexily named “Nitro Internet”. We’ve really noticed how much faster it’s making our work, and the faster we can work, the more we can do, the more money we can raise, and the more we’ll suffer! Booray!

Finally, our last technical sponsor is Sharp’s Audio Visual. Sharp’s has generously donated us a 52” TV for the week. As you might know, we interact with the Desert Bus chat by running it through an enormous TV that we can read from anywhere in the broadcast area. With a 52” TV, even the most exhausted Desert Bus volunteer will have no problem reading our chat.

So there you have it – the three companies responsible for technical wizardry behind this year’s Desert Bus for Hope. There’s no way we could do it without them. Please visit our sponsors page to learn more about them and visit their websites!

The Mario Marathon Jumps on the Desert Bus (And You Can Too!)

Posted by: Jer

Guys, this is incredible: our friends over at MarioMarathon have made something amazing.

Head over to MarioMarathon.com/DB to check out their fantastic hub-site. Not only can you watch the drivercam and participate in the chat, you can also play Desert Bus yourself and be ranked against other viewers around the world. Frankly, I am astonished, and have no idea what we can possibly do to to repay them in kind, but mark my word, we will think of something!

United in arms for the children, the Child’s Play Superfriends are geared up to go!

Tech Test is Live [Now Finished]

Posted by: Jer

Tonight marks the Desert Bus 2010 technical mishap test–where we make sure all mishaps are accounted for and happy so that they won’t visit us during the actual run. Sure enough, things have been pretty janky, complete with lag, broken audio and other various issues. However, things are more-or-less working now, so if you’re reading this and want to drop by to help us test out our tech, you can find us here:

We’ll be trying out our new challenge solicitation system, silent auctions and more, so tune in for a taste of things to come.

We totally passed nine points on Desert Bus a couple hours ago, but in the excitement of auctions, dancing and so on, we completely didn’t mention it. Next up: 10!! Bus hard, team.
