The Finale

As of 6:35am PST, the Desert Bus for Hope stopped!!! THANK GOD!

In the end we ended up raising $22,805. Nothing in this world could have prepared us for this kind of support. Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement, the donations, the food, and thanks to all that stayed up countless hours to keep us entertained in the chat. This would have not been possible if it wasn’t for you guys.

Also just a huge thanks to everyone out there that was kind enough to throw us a link, give us a radio/tv interviews and just for telling a friend. And on top of all these people a huge thanks needs to go out to Penn and Teller. It is safe to say that your support kept us going at 3:30 in the morning, knowing a phone call could be a matter of hours away from you guys was always a HUGE moral boost. Thanks so much for the support and the food. You guys are fantastic.

We are looking into maybe doing a quick live video re-cap of the event on Thursday night, more information to follow.

    Support? Or twisted sadism?

Kidding. Congratulations guys. Really, that’s an amazing amount of money…

Oh, also we demand that Morgan goes through with his 109 hour. GOGO.

  3. Lacerta Says:

  6. Evil Jim Says:

This has truly been an amazing feat shared by both the LRR crew & all their supporters. It was a pleasure to watch your continued torment & an honour to have been given the opportunity to take part in it, especially being able to communicate with you in real-time, which makes the comradery that much greater. It was a pleasure to endure the long, long weekend with you & I admire you all. Thank you and congratulations! ~ Evil Jim

  7. Adam Hartling (Xenos_) Says:

I was really hoping I could cause you guys to have to drive one more hour :) Oh well, thanks for the entertainment, the fun, the great idea, and for collecting so much for child’s play!

  13. Atrius Says:

    Grats!! You guys are amazing.

  14. Lord Chrusher Says:

Good job everyone! Now you can sleep, go to school, go to work return to your regularly scheduled activities.

  15. Sarah Says:

Next year, 8% increase per hour.

Actually, maybe 20% would be safer.

  16. Chamelaeon Says:

Congratulations, guys, you did a bang-up job and raised some serious coin for an awesome charity by going WAY above and beyond the call of duty.

    … see you next year?

  17. Matt Says:

Great work guys! Lets see a repeat of this, or something better! Learn your lessons from this round, and the next event will be even better!

  18. Kenny Says:

Damn job!!! I missed the end! Why did it stop? Was my math off? I was thinking the end was going to be 10:30 AM EST! Oh well….

WHY IS YOUR GRAPHIC SAY $28K?

  21. Dagger Says:

  22. Kristin Says:

Though I never got into chat I was informed what you were doing for child’s play and stayed up and watched you guys rooting when you hit another thousand and laughing at all the silly jokes. You guys are truly great and hope you do it again next year. I know you have inspired a lot of people. You have shown you don’t really need to do anything truly physical like run a race to get money for charity, all you need is determination, good friends, and the ability to hold a controller. Again congrats and thank you

  23. Mechsae Says:

    Spectacular finish LRR!

  24. Syphilis Says:

Wow congratz im just sad I missed the finale. =(

  25. Jen Says:

Congrats on the successful run guys! I was a little sad this morning when I realized you would not be on again, but I bet you’re relieved to have finished. You all deserve a long break.

  26. Inversed Says:

    Amazing job… seriously.

Although, correct me if I’m wrong… the current time only shows 108 hours (96+12), while the time limit is 109…. Not to be sadistic, but do you owe Desert Bus another hour???

I mean, for the kids, right?

  27. Shoebox Says:

Hope you guys can finally get some rest. :)

I think the whole community is blown away by what you’ve done here.

  28. dr-spangle Says:

What was your score at the end? There should be a desert bus high score board somewhere :p

  29. Ridetsu Says:

hey everyone, i’m glad your suffering is over for now, you all are what i would consider to be ‘the best of the best’ when it comes to the human spirit. To inflict pain upon one’s self for the sake of helping poor, sick children have happiness has to be one of the most considerate (if not batshit crazy) things someone can do in their life.
If there is a heaven or a hell, you’ve earned your ticket to the pearly gates.

  30. Nigel Brown Says:

Defiantly want to extend my congrats to the crew! From comp science in grade 12 to this! ha, very well done and I would never hope this game upon you again!

  31. Mats Says:

I think they got donations to push them into 109 hours after they stoped. and yes they did give the donation 5 minutes to tally in so I don’t say they owe Desert Bus another hour.

  32. Paul (not LRR paul) Says:

You guys are great! I kept the live feed going every moment I was at a computer for the last 3 days - my roommates love/hate me for it, but I was blown away to see it top 20,000.

Other than “three PS3s”, I hadn’t ever seen the other LRR videos…Thanks to desert bus, I’ve already gone through the entire archive on your site. Rock.

  33. Unclever title Says:

Job well done, congrats, now get some sleep/stand up and stretch/whatever.

  34. The Passenger Says:

Let’s see the 22000 images! WTG LRR

  35. alienbinary Says:

This was really an inspiration. I once wrote an article called “hacking for the homeless” for a magazine I put out for RantMedia. The topic was using your “geekdom” to think of ways to benefit others and charity. This certainly makes the list. I think it’s safe to say, you pwned desert bus.

    Cheers,

    alienbinary

  36. Caravan Says:

I was one of the very-last-minute donators ($243) to try and extend their run (in fact, I clicked pay right as they were cheering at the end). I have to say, I don’t regret missing the bus (rimshot) on getting them an extra hour, and I’m fine with my donation going through. This was awesome indeed, and I’m totally down with their idea of running Desert Bus on XBLA next year as a sort of “drive for kids” group effort thing.

  37. Arilla Says:

For the “missing the bus” pun I award Caravan .5 of a Desert Bus Point (which is A LOT)

    THANKS LRR

    Gratz guys?

  38. James Z Says:

  39. James Z Says:

Aw man, of all people I ought to know you can’t leave an img tag in a WordPress comment.

    Point is: ABANDONMENT ANXIETY

  40. The End Boss Says:

Wow, great job guys! $22′000 is way more than I first guessed :O

  41. Kate Says:

    Congratulations everyone!
Your contribution is going to make so many children delighted.
    ^_^

  42. Fuzzypaws Says:

Dammit, I set my alarm so I could see the end but it never went off.

Good job on making a lot of sick kids happy this Christmas.

    DESERT BUS!!! WOOOOO!!!!

  43. sean Says:

I am going to follow this party back to loadingreadyrun.com. This bunch is funny as hell with desert bus sized hearts.

  44. Stephieface Says:

You guys rock! Gratz on an awesome job well done! Hope you guys can do it next year.

  45. STROMKOPF Says:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! THIS CANNOT BE OVER!!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYY????
Okay, i know you guys really need some rest, but i am kinda surprised right now to see the “game over” message all of a sudden. Sad. I just thought (hoped) this would go on forever.
It was a wonderful event, though. Thanks LRR for doing this, i had so much fun watching you ride that damn bus!

  46. martin Says:

I’m sure you guys are gonna get REALLY tired of hearing this eventually.

But thank you very much, for presenting a new and entertaining twist to this yearly tradition. And for providing the entire gaming community a chance to join as one, and bask in the seemingly endless schaddenfreude of your trials and tribulations.

And congratulations on sticking it out and seeing the ordeal through to the end.

Sadly my office blocks the streaming video and I couldn’t see the finish. I’d love to see a highlight reel of the event if you’re willing to sift through the 4.5 days worth of video. ^_^

  47. Krz Says:

    oh the memorable moments

  48. Mechsae Says:

For all those who missed the Finalle, it’s up on the Ustream.tv site. It’s the first past clip on the left.

    http://www.ustream.tv/channel/desert-bus-drivercam

And for those of you coping with abandonment the second clip from the left is 5 hours long, happy viewing!

Also, yeah I sent an e-mail shortly after they updated with the 109 hours thing and got a response stating the same. Despite Bill’s enthusiasm to keep going till Morgan got another shift they cut off the tally at $243.16 to the next total and went over 5 minutes after they were supposed to stop.

  49. Jon Says:

    FLAWLESS
    VICTORY

  50. Lord Traith Says:

    AWESOME job guys!

    We’ll see you next year!

  51. Scone Says:

Truly a spectacular fund raiser. It’s like the Relay for Life, except in a Desert on a Bus…

I actually dreamed of Desert Bus. I’m not sure if that’s good or not.

    LRR is AMAZING!

  52. Graham Says:

Caravan, yeah sorry it didn’t come through in time, because I DID want Morgan to have to drive again, but as it is, I had class at 9:30AM, so finishing at 6:30AM was bad enough.
    Thanks though!

If we do our live feed wrap-up on Thursday, we’ll make him play during it.

  53. Caravan Says:

    That compromise pleases me! :D

  54. tuckerfudpucker Says:

    Bye bye!

  55. Sara Says:

Great job, I really enjoyed watching you guys and all your jokes.
A must have for next year… Andy! Maybe a show tune every hour on the hour or every time you hit a thousand mark!
    Congrats and great job!

  56. Caravan Says:

By the fifth year, you’ll be driving a real bus from Tucson to Las Vegas and back, and broadcasting live to us via satellite!

  57. Andy Says:

Look forward to the SECOND annual desert bus for hope!

  58. Graham Says:

Yeah… we’ll need a little while to clear our heads, and to stop seeing air freshener’s floating in front of our eyes, before we decide what’s happening next year.

  59. Dez! Says:

    Well done guys!

    Congratulations!!1

    22k is FREAKIN’ amazing!!

    Dez!

  60. Kcha Says:

    Congrats LRR!

I’m kinda bummed I missed the end, but I’m really glad I could spend so much of the time (pretty much my entire weekend, haha) with you guys! It was time well spent.

So amazing on the 22k! I hope you three do something along these lines next year.

Here’s to hoping for that live feed wrap-up on Thursday.

  61. Alonzo Says:

    Grats to LRR :D

I’ve been trying to come up with a good Child’s Play fund raiser, but yours is was better than anything I’ve managed to dream up ;)

Great job, and thanks for the good times. I look forward to next year.

  62. Ijzer Says:

I think I only missed about 30 or so hours of the thing, total. I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself now that it’s gone. D=

Great job though, guys. What might be more amazing than the $22k is the fact that you managed to stay entertaining even at 2 am after 4 days of playing.

  63. ZephCrow Says:

I’m not sure about what I can say that hasn’t been said before, but you guys did a very awesome job. I kept the Driver Cam running constantly (even while asleep!) and I was rather sad to wake up to the camera being off air.

This was a brilliant idea and you will for sure make a lot of people, not just children, very happy. Congrats!

  64. Yadda Says:

er, sorry to doublepost, but I meant unPOSTED and POSTED. *hits self in head*

  65. billsmom Says:

“WELL DONE !!” a few months ago i sent Bill away on a special mission hoping he would master the skill of driving. ……..Alas, seeing as he is now the “GINGER CRASHER” with the MOST CRASHES!!! I’m not so sure I want him driving my truck……….
LOVE YOU ALL LLR Couldn’t be more PROUD……. I CAN’T WAIT to SEE WHAT’s NEXT
    ……really truely…… BILL’s MOM

  66. Aaron Says:

Just wanted to say that the cam chat was a great experience. Thanks for keeping me company while I was sick and bored. Oh, and I guess raising a hojillion dollars for sick kids is pretty cool of you too.
