I’m not sure when it will end, hopefully never. As it stands we have gone off the road twice, once in the first 20min we were paid $500 by Eddie Gorodetsky (one of the concept originators). And Sadly again around the 2day 5hour 50min mark our driver cam went down and we became distracted. This unfortunate turn will not dampen our spirits, we will go on! We will complete the journey!
UPDATE: As of 2days 10hours and 23min there have been 3 crashes. In the early morning the driver drifted off to sleep and drifted off the road.

Oh no, bye bye desert bus world record! Unless the donations actually WILL never stop…
GO GO BUS MANIACS!!!
November 26th, 2007 at 7:05 am
Did you reset the game?
You must have had… 6 points! What a shame
Next year you should do $1 for 1 point.
November 26th, 2007 at 7:07 am
Yes we all know about the crash, but it’s behind them and they are still going strong.
November 26th, 2007 at 8:05 am
As far as we know, it is still a record at 6
November 26th, 2007 at 8:26 am
Yeah, the only other “record” on file is an SA forumite’s 12 points, but… screenshot or it didn’t happen. These guys are setting the record now.
November 26th, 2007 at 8:54 am
Can I make a complaint?
I was just noticing that you are very close to getting 100 hours, and I realized that the counter goes in days, but the amount donated goes in hours.
Confusing!
November 26th, 2007 at 8:57 am
There’s 24 hours in a day. Just remember that and you’ll be fine : )
November 26th, 2007 at 8:59 am
This is truly the greatest game-related charity I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing! Keep up the good… uh… driving!
This should become an annual event
November 26th, 2007 at 9:02 am
So, the first crash was 17 minutes in, and the 3rd crash just happened.. what was the second crash?
November 26th, 2007 at 9:25 am
My first comment actually was for the second crash, which happend 5 hours before the 3rd crash, as the text above says…
Thought that 12 point record was real, hope it isn’t, so LRR holds it now. Guess noone really knows. At least they made the One-Three-Three-Seven!
November 26th, 2007 at 9:29 am
As someone else remarked:
The night/dusk and no daylight - bug has never been documented, but was very obvious.
Seems like proof no one has ever played this game for more than 2 or 3 points.
It would have been noticed and mentioned. It’s not like there’s much to tell. Even the bugsplat becomes an ‘event’.
November 26th, 2007 at 10:16 am
One of my coworkers just returned from the long (US) weekend and complained that “30 hours in the car just wiped me out.” I thought, “wuss.”
November 26th, 2007 at 10:26 am
This is really lame. here they are talking about getting it done for the kids non stop for two days and on the third day it falls apart. Way to let down the kids guys. The counter should be reset to 0 for crashing the bus “for the kids”
November 26th, 2007 at 10:33 am
Too bad about the third crash, but don’t give up hope! At the end of it all just tally up all the points received as a “total points accumulated”.
November 26th, 2007 at 11:12 am
Oh my god, this is crazy what people can do!
November 26th, 2007 at 11:13 am
The crashes mean NOTHING! It’s all about the endurance. And the cold, hard cash for the sick kids! Best charity event ever.
November 26th, 2007 at 11:37 am
how can you say the crashes mean nothing? What kind of endurace match doesnt fail when the person who should be enduring falls asleep?
November 26th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
A forgiving charity endurance match.
November 26th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
Tell you what Bob, you do 90 hours non-stop whining about them crashing and I’ll sponsor you a $1 to STFU?
November 26th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
Dude, people screw up and they mess up. But what do you do? Do you give up hope? No! Did Terry Fox give up hope despite having cancer and having to lose his leg (which lets concider, for purposes of the metephorical to be a crash)? No! Did the British in world war two give up hope when Germany basicly bombed their cities to smitherienes(basicly, in london, one church was one of the only things that survived…according to my history prof)? No! Do the indie 500 race car drives give up even though they might be in last place for about 90% of the race? No! They keep driving keep pushing it…. and some actually move far.
Those who are last sometimes become first. Those who fall, their true glory is in their endurance and recovery and bravery against those who would otherwise lose and give up.
Keep fighting men! This is your Blitz, your inde 500. Your Terry Fox run! (i don’t care if the metephors don’t work and some ass might be like “Oh… what a horrible reference for people playing video games straight”…. but dudes, you can do it. FIght, survive. Do it for the kids. Do it for all these haters out here that think you don’t have the balls to keep going. You can do it LLR. I belive in you guys.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:21 pm
You guys are awesome. This is a great idea and you’re really doing a good thing for the kids.
Keep on busin’.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:26 pm
I don’t know what people are getting in a twist over. They can crash 100 times for all I care. It’s the act of playing this awful game non stop that qualifies as the fundraiser. Crashing or not crashing is an irrelevant detail that doesn’t really matter.
November 26th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
Crashing the bus is unfairly exciting for them. If they’re going to be that crazy they might as well play sonic the hedgehog or something.
November 26th, 2007 at 2:18 pm
great going guys/gals - guess it’s okay to drive the bus on the left side of the road????:-O
November 26th, 2007 at 2:42 pm
Can you really call it a crash if the bus only goes 45 MPH on an EMPTY road? Who cares — the hours complete (and the charity) is what is important. What is more amazing is that the Sega CD has not died yet. Try that with an Xbox 360! It would overheat and red ring.
November 26th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
My eye keeps going up to the banner image: The 1st Annual DESERT BUS for Hope.
You guys are going to have to do it again next year. And somebody should prepare a 100-hour Ultimate Desert Bus Super Drivin’ Mix.
November 26th, 2007 at 2:52 pm
Have just donated. This is WELL worth at least a day’s pay. You guys keep on’ bussing!
November 26th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
What would be cool is if next year there were some kind of corporate sponsor that would donate and extra $500 dollars or something if they could do the whole thing without crashing.
Adds a whole new (and contemporary) meaning to “Keep on truckin’!”
November 26th, 2007 at 3:43 pm
I told you people, keep Kate AWAY from the wheel!
November 26th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
You guys inspired me to do a remake of Desert Bus for PCs. Keep it going!
November 26th, 2007 at 4:44 pm
I think the ammount per hour should be capped at 200$, so as not to stifle donations towards the end.
November 26th, 2007 at 5:12 pm
Donating is the right thing to do, to help the kids.
But is it ok I derive a sick sort of pleasure from keeping these poor souls tethered to that bus?
And I don’t care about crashes, as someone above said, it’s more about sitting there, playing freaking Desert Bus for… ever.
Come on guys, let’s donate enough to keep these guys playing till next Child’s Play!
November 26th, 2007 at 6:14 pm
I nominate VNV Nation’s “Perpetual” for that Ultimate Super Drivin’ Mix. ^_~
November 26th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
if its a propper roadtrip mix, it needs a few novelty songs which are awsome the first few times, but after the 30th time they just grate on you… signs of a good roadtrip mix
as for the driving, good on you guys… although i do like the idea of the donating for a number of points system. then you have to drive untill you get 6, 12 or even 50 points ke ke ke

Thanks for the informative article. It made me think up some things.
